Harley-Davidson Invests in Electric Vehicle Startup

Harley-Davidson announced that it will collaborate with Alta Motors, an electric vehicle company based in Brisbane, California on the production of future Harley electric motorcycles. The announcement was made on March 1.

The Milwaukee company says it has acquired part of the Californian company that has been making electric dirt bikes for eight years. Harley-Davidson made an equity investment in Alta Motors, although both companies weren’t specific on the investment and terms of the deal. Continue reading

GM Will Launch Autonomous Cars Without Steering Wheel or Pedals by 2019

General Motors is going to mass-produce autonomous cars that lack traditional controls like steering wheels and pedals next year, the company announced these days.

The automaker is seeking approval to deploy a car that doesn’t comply with all federal safety standards and has no steering wheel or pedals. It has submitted a petition to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for approval to adjust 16 motor vehicle standards thus the company will be able to test vehicles that have no steering wheel, pedals, and other driver controls. If regulators approve, the automaker plans to test up to 2,500 modified Chevrolet Bolts on public roads in a number of cities. Continue reading

Driverless Cars Coming to Golden State Soon

Cars without human drivers will be allowed on California streets by early spring.

Long-awaited state regulations for autonomous cars without drivers may be approved Monday by a legal compliance agency, according to the state Department of Motor Vehicles, which submitted the rules to the Office of Administrative Law on January 11.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles will allow autonomous cars without pedals, mirrors, and human drivers behind the wheel on the state roads soon.

Rolls-Royce Names its Ultra-luxury Off-roader Cullinan

Rolls-Royce’s groundbreaking first SUV is named after a diamond.

The name of the new Rolls-Royce hatchback vehicle was officially announced after months of speculations.
The new ultra-luxury off-roader is named after the largest rough-cut diamond ever found- Cullinan. Weighing nearly 1.5 pounds, the Cullinan was discovered in South Africa more than a century ago and is currently owned by Queen Elizabeth.

The vehicle has been developed under the Project Cullinan since its inception and inspired by the largest flawless diamond ever found.

The car is designed to travel off-road as well as on pavement. Little information has been revealed about the off-roader so far- it is described by the British luxury car maker as a “high-sided” vehicle rather than an SUV. Continue reading

Tesla ‘On Autopilot’ Slams Into Parked Fire Truck On Freeway

A fire truck parked at a California freeway was hit by a Tesla Model S reported being in ‘autopilot’ mode. The driver was not seriously injured but the vehicle suffered significant damage.

The fire truck had been parked in the left emergency lane, blocking off the scene of a previous accident, authorities said. The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. on Interstate 405 in Culver City.

The union representing Culver City firefighters whose truck was hit said the driver claimed he had been using Tesla’s Autopilot system.

Ford Debuted 2019 Edge ST, a Tuned up Version of its SUV

Ford just unveiled its 2019 Edge ST- a higher-powered version of the popular SUV.

The ST edition of the Edge sport utility vehicle was introduced last Thursday in advance of the Detroit auto show. This new Ford Edge will be the first SUV ever that joins the Ford Performance lineup, which includes vehicles as the GT supercar and the Shelby GT350 Mustang. China Unveils New Solar Highway

China’s new solar highway is complete and will soon be able to recharge electric vehicles.
The world’s first solar panel highway was officially opened at 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in Jinan, the capital of China’s Shandong Province. This solar road is part of a project, named the Jinan City Expressway that is currently being built in one of China’s most highly-trafficked areas. In total, the solar road is 1.2 miles and contains over 10,000 photovoltaic panels that will be able to convert sunlight into electricity. Continue reading

Navya Unveils its Self-Driving Taxi

Navya Technologies SAS unveiled its Autonum Cab, an autonomous taxi currently available for orders.
The small French company is mostly known for its autonomous shuttles. Navya has recently taken the next step in self-driving vehicles by introducing its robot-driven automobiles.
Navya is planning to test its self-driving taxis onto the streets of Paris in the next few weeks to try and beat large tech companies, big automakers, and other well-funded startups, from General Motors Co. to Alphabet Inc., in a race to develop fully autonomous cars and prove that they are safe. Two Vintage Cars Owned by The Beatles Go To Auction

Two most British pieces of musical and automobile history Aston Martin and Mini Cooper formerly owned by The Beatles can now be yours. A 1964 Aston Martin DB5 that used to belong to Sir Paul McCartney and a 1966 Mini Cooper owned by Ringo Starr are going to auction in a few days at The Bond Street Sale, an auction house in London.
The Cooper is expected to sell for anywhere between $120,000 to $160,000 and Aston Martin is expected to fetch between $1.6 million and $2 million. Continue reading
