Airline Wants to Weigh Travelers Before They Board the Plane

Tesla to Build Manufacturing Plant in Shanghai

14_Tesla_Model_STesla is planning to build a factory in Shanghai to help bring costs down.

Tesla Motors is in discussions to establish its first factory in China. CEO Elon Musk said two years ago that a factory in the country could cut the price of electric cars sold in China by a third.

In a statement last week, Tesla Motors said it is planning to set up more overseas factories to make electric cars that customers could afford. Such a factory is a must in China, which charges steep tariffs for imported cars.

Richard Branson Invests in Hyperloop One

After a major investment from Richard Branson’s company, the Hyperloop One transport company has changed its name into Virgin Hyperloop One. The exact investment figure invested by Virgin Group has not been released. However, last month Hyperloop One received an additional $85 million through fundraising. The company’s total funding was brought to $245 million. Virgin Hyperloop One has now been valued at $700 million.

Putin Says He Would Drive a Tesla

Putin, whose homeland is one of the biggest oil producers in the world, said Wednesday he would be interested in driving a Tesla. The Russian President was speaking during an energy forum in Moscow. A Rocket Will Get You Anywhere on Earth in an Hour

800px-Clouds_over_AfricaThe vehicle would both take off and land vertically, just like a space rocket. It would fly New York to Tokyo and any other routes in about 30 minutes or at least under an hour.

The billionaire innovator unveiled his plans for his rocket at a presentation Friday in Australia. The rocket is named BFR and would also be able to carry satellites to orbit, people and cargo to the International Space Station. In addition, the rocket would complete missions to the Moon and Mars, according to Musk. The vehicle would contain 40 cabins and would be able to carry roughly 100 people at a time. Continue reading

Lockheed Martin Unveils Reusable Crewed Mars Lander

Mars_23_aug_2003_hubbleFully reusable crewed Martian lander was unveiled Friday by Lockheed Martin at this year’s International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia.
The water-powered lander, single stage and fully reusable, will allow humans to explore Mars from an orbiting ‘base camp’ in the 2030s.
The lander is Lockheed Martin’s vision for what may come after NASA’s Deep Space Gateway mission to test habitable orbital environments. The mission starts in the early 2020s. The completely reusable lander could both land and lift off, according to Robert Chambers, a senior systems engineer at the US defense giant Lockheed Martin, helping to lead the Mars Base Camp project. Tesla Working With AMD to Develop A.I. Chip for Self-Driving Cars

The EV- maker is working with AMD to develop its own A.I. chip for autonomous cars, according to a source familiar with the matter.
It isn’t a secret that Tesla always wanted to build an in-house artificial intelligence chip to handle autonomous functions of its cars. The electric carmaker is closer than ever to reaching that goal with help from Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
